The Grande Prairie Airport (YQU) is the main transportation and commercial airport hub for northwestern Alberta and is located just over 3 miles northwest of the city. Visitors and residents to the area can fly WestJet Airlines Encore between Grande Prairie, Calgary and Edmonton. Their regular jet service which ends September 13th 2013 is replaced by the Q400 Turbo Prop service operated by West Jet Encore which commences the fall of 2013.

The region is also served by Air Canada Express with flights between Calgary and Edmonton. Sunwest Aviation serving Edson and Peace River. Sunwing Airlines offers seasonal winter vacation flights direct to Puerto Vallarta.

The region is experiencing a rapidly expanding economy which is reflected by the increased traffic at the Grande Prairie Airport. An average of more than 360,000 passengers use the facility each year.
